01Our mission

Building sustainable futures through strategic partnerships

OWDA is committed to maintaining and strengthening strategic capacities and partnerships to bring about sustainable development in the lives of underserved populations in Ethiopia. By collaborating with local and international stakeholders, we strive to implement impactful programs that address the root causes of poverty, improve access to essential services, and empower communities to build a brighter, more resilient future.

02Our vision

Empowering Ethiopia for sustainable and equitable development

OWDA aspires to see an Ethiopia where all people have attained sustainable human development, leading to a prosperous and equitable society. We envision a future where every Ethiopian is empowered with the resources to achieve self-reliance and resilience. By fostering education, health, and social well-being, OWDA aims to create a just, inclusive, and sustainable society where opportunities for growth and prosperity are accessible to all.

Our journey

Organization's background

The Organization for Welfare and Development in Action (OWDA) was founded in December 1999 under registration No. 0421 to provide humanitarian aid to communities affected by the 1999/2000 drought. The highest governing body of OWDA is the General Assembly (GA), which is composed of 53 members. The GA delegates oversight responsibilities to a Board of Directors, consisting of five members elected by the General Assembly for a four-year term.
